“Naanum Rajavum”,

Dear Friends,

 

It was a wonderful evening we were blessed to be present in “Naanum Rajavum”, fully participated by SPB alone, conducted at Kamarajar hall, Chennai on 19.05.13.

 

The output or the essence of the concert was superb and spellbound.  It’s like wetting ourselves in the musical rains.

 

Would like to share you both the positive & general feedback as follows:

 

Positive:
1. Output of the audio or Sound Engineering was awesome. We had never got such an 100% experience from any other group. This is neither comparison nor exaggeration – but a real fact.

2. Secondly, the key board player. Let it be any instrument...he played the same in key board with ease & perfection. When Balu sir was applauding him also, he didn’t look up or down or even notice that recognition, but was fully concentrating in his job. What an involvement & dedication!!! I was amazed when he played “Nadaswaram” as well    “ violin” in the key board just casually. Hats off to him! (Sorry..didnt know his name)

3. Next was the female singer Ms. Suchithra. Her voice (luckily) didn’t resemble S.Janaki mam or any other singer but had unique style & pitching and the way she rendered certain songs looked as if her tone itself is an instrument! What a perfection & range...She was simply inspiring & felt like listening more.  (example: Adhi kalai nerame..song. She rendered very neatly & sangadis were too nice & pleasing to the heart!

4. Same with the case of Dipashika. We have been watching her in the recent years. Already she has given good numbers with Balu Sir in the same stage. Her level of confidence in presenting songs with no strain on our face and her sharp eyes always looking straight at the audience were significant.

5. Most highlighting factor is the limited number of persons sitting in the orchestra but giving maximum productivity.

6. Happiest thing about the event is the selection of songs and the unsung hit numbers in stage. We were spell bound when heard “poonthalirada” or “yeh orayiram” or “vizhiyile manivizhiyile” the super-duper hits of those days.

7. Also would like to mention, Mr Gopal was applauding as a token of encouragement to his team when they rendered their portion to their best. This showed how keen he was recognising their talents and also how important his role as the key person.

8. We had a feel of “Give me more” and never felt like leaving the auditorium as the output of the sound was superb, superb & simply excellent and the complete orchestra team members were enjoying their participation with dedication & involvement. (example: 2^nd key board person smilingly waving his fingers in the keyboard zig-zag with full smile, during kattu kuyilu song)

9. The female & male chorus were totally entertaining  

10. It’s a good thought of saluting the Maestro thereby making the Troupe Singers sing few hit songs as a dedication to Shri K J Yesudas & Malaysia Vasudevan.

 

General Feedback:

1.     Most of the auditorium was full by 6.00pm itself whereas the stage wasn’t open till 7.15.

2.     While there was comments on those who come by free & complimentary passes, 90% of the audience had purchased tickets by spending their money to enjoy the event. When the team delays to start the function or here as a rare incident, after Sir appeared in the stage there is a forced pause and he left back to the back stage....& when majority of the good numbers were  sung only after 9pm, as 50% of the crowd started to leave, there is absolutely disappointment in the hearts of ‘rasigas’ who arrived on time but were deprived of good songs, just becos of lack of time due to poor administration & poor organising of seats & tickets. Kindly keep in mind, for an average family spending Rs.300/- or Rs.250/- per head is of course a big money and for a family they spend so much, only to enjoy the concert and not to land up in disappointment. On behalf of all rasigas I request the Organisers, to start the programme on the time and to give good hit numbers in the beginning itself, so that it would benefit the real music lovers.

3.     The comperer (dont know her name) seemed to be unexperienced & didn’t have  specific points while presenting but was poking us always only to keep on clapping. For such a beautiful concert, compering could have been better.

4.     Just because the programme started late, the number of songs were also reduced. In between this, known songs like “Sundari kannal”; “Kadhal kavithaigal padithidum neram” consumed time hugely. Those songs could have been replaced with some more good numbers, as a matter of compensation atleast.

5.     During Kattu Kuyilu song, the female chorus were zero heard, whereas the singers were singing!!! May be some problem in the mike or output but through out the song, the chorus section came thrice but all three times their voices were not heard but the girls were singing sincerely. There is lack of coordination in this aspect.

Last but not least, this program is not covered by any TV channels to telecast this on a later date!

 

 Balu sir had dressed up in a nice attire (“Nehru dress”) & was in his best of mood, fully praising & sharing interesting anecdotes about his friend-cum-colleague Maestro. He shared lot of technicalities about Raja’s knowledge to the usage & max output instruments. As usual, he admired & encouraged upcoming singers (Dipashika & the other Male singer). He also remembered with respects his co-singers Janaki Mam & P.Suseela Mam and complimented even North singers cant compete with them and profusely thanked lyricists & song writers for sketching such good lyrics for Raja sir’s tunes. We felt like keep listening to him more as Sir spoke in a very good mood & also sang with lot of happiness.

 

(One sample: He repeated Charanam of O-Vasantharaja mentioning that he didn’t render it properly earlier. Further added..in that song the name ‘raja’ appears frequently..and he wont bear a small mistake even in a live show & would make singers repeat. Hence did that as a humble conscious decision!)

 

As usual, Sir announced modestly that his music knowledge is very less compared to other musicians and he had learnt lot of nuances from his seniors like S.Janaki & through out from Raja sir. He repeatedly mentioned “Ilayaraja is the best” on various occasions & justified why he admires him so much. “Nalla iruda nee” he screamed at one point of time.

 

Sir commented intentionally that he’s unaware why Raja appears as a ‘sanyasi’ when he created such mesmerising tunes like ‘meendum meendum va’ and also said Raja is qualified to become a Film Director as he possesses all qualities by imagining scenes in his mind, while he closes his eyes and completes composing...

 

 

Here are the much-awaited list of songs:

 

1.     Mounamana Neram (thr was pause of 10min, as audience didn’t assemble due to lack of seats but huge crowd...”where thr is mounam” he commented & left the stage. Came after a brief time!)

2.     Poonthalirada (the starting of ‘poonthalirada’ line was sang in different manner, as sir felt most of the today’s songs were new to him, to sing on stage and took time to practice (!). He even congratulated Mr.Gopal, the Program conductor, for the same.

3.     Pattu Thalaivan (gave intro about the hiccups in the beginning)

4.     O-Vasantha Raja (repeated saranam once for his satisfaction)

5.     Kanmaniye kadhal enbadu (sang with Ananthu for male duet & dipasika for female duet...Ananthu sang his portion exactly like those days’ Balu sir’s voice & it was so soothing to hear! Sir congratulated Ananthu for his performance)

6.     Yeh...yeh...orayiram

7.     Roja Onru Mutham ketkum neram

8.     Meendum Meendum Va

9.     Andhi varum neram

10.                        Kadhal Kavithaigal

11.                        Rojavai thalattum thenral

12.                        Vizhiyile mani vizhiyile (simply superb!! )

Dear All,

It was a wonderful event I have ever participated in my 7 year association with the SPB FANS CHARITABLE FOUNDATION since 2006.  I'm yet to come out of the nostalgic moments of the evening.

More than a tribute, it looked like a festival of thanks giving to the Late Sri PBS. I was spellbound to see the parade of musicians one after the other...starting from our

It was overwhelming to see our SPB sir in wheels...he played the role of the CAPTAIN of the ship and was ensuring every celebrity was attended personally by him. It was enjoyable to watch our Sir enjoying his best upon PBS sir's songs been sung by upcoming singers.

The organisers had decorated a chair with PBS sir's shawl and the turban thereby giving an impression to the audience as if the Late Legend is seated. It is mentionable here that this Event was organised when Shri PBS was alive and it's an ironical fact that the same was been converted to a Tribute. The idea behind this Felicitation Event was of Shri SPB's.

All super hit solos & duets of Dr.PBS were sung by celebrity film singers followed by launch of the book "Pranavam" .

There cant be a better ode to the Poet (PBS), whom (the organisers earmarked) had penned more than 2,50,000 songs all in eight languages (Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Urdu, Hindi, English & Sanskrit).

May the Universal Almighty bless PBS sir's soul to rest in peace. The Tribute organised for Kalaimamani Dr P.B.Sreenivos fetched cheers, happiness & contentment upon every participant's heart on being present on such a rare and great occasion.

People said PBS had never hurt anyone but only been to his best to one and all. Same was proved in the event organised to bid farewwll to him. It had never hurt anyone but blessed the 'rasigas' hearts with contentment, contentment and only contentment!

On behalf of the Fans Foundation, Balu sir felicitated Webmaster & Mr. Seshadri on stage with a bouquet of flowers and gave his modest feedback in mike, that his webfans are doing great things silently.

Dear Friends,

   We are one of the luckiest members to attend the concert of SPB's KAMALUM NANUM held at Kamaraj Arangam on 18th Nov.2012.

    It was a packed auditorium before Our Sir made his presence to sing his 1st song. It was little sad that " MOUNARAGAM MURALI" had not given the proper Intro to our Sir. But 'KUDOS" to the team of " MOUNARAGAM MURALI" for the wonderful orchestration & selection of  rare songs. Most of the songs are very rarely sung in the concert by our Sir.

    Now, coming to our Guruji, Sir needed 2 songs to warm up, he started slowly, but after the 2nd song he was in superior form in singing. Even Murali was delighted, the way sir had enjoyed in singing the songs. It was a Diwali treat to all the audiences.

    The whole auditorium was behind our Sir by clapping, dancing & after each & every song they had given a big round of Applause. Especially during the songs of " En jodi" from Vikram & "Ilamai Idho" from Sagalakal vallavan, peaople were dancing & our Sir was really enjoying. It was a great Visual treat. Most importantly Sir didnt talk too much after the  song. Sir was just concentrating on songs.

    As a Spl. Guest Play back singer Mr. Unni Menon made his presence & sung his debut song " Pon Maane" from Oru Kaithiyin Dairy, & also A.R.Rehman Sister also made her presence & sung a duet song with our Sir from the movie " Indian" ( maya machindra ). After singing the song she said that this is the 1st time she is singing in a stage & its her life ambition to sing with LEGENDARY SINGER & she also said that she is a great fan of KAMALJI.

    All together i am very sure that in the last 2 years, i had not seen our Sir with such a energy & enthu while singing the songs. Its really a treat. Before the last song Sir humbly said that in the recent times he used to close his eyes  when his car enters the auditorium, cos he doesn't want to see the vacant auditorium, but every time the auditorium is packed. I am very grateful to you all for listening this same voice for long years.

    Our Sir is BACK WITH BANG. The way Sir sung everyone in the auditorium thought that Sir age must be just 30, not 60+. Herebelow i had given some of the songs list sung by our Sir.

    Once again my KUDOS to " MOUNARAGAM MURALI & HIS TROOP, especially the female playback singers & all the troop members most of them are part of RAJA SIR TROOP & MSV SIR TROOP members. So that you all can imagine what a wonderful evening you all had missed.

    LET US ALL PRAY TO GOD TO GIVE OUR SIR A VERY HEALTHY & HAPPY LIFE .

    There is no tv coverage, but they had recorded it, hopefully they will get a tie up sith some channel, when it was done done miss to watch it out.

SPB Sir's Glorious Musical Concert at TRICHY

It is finalized to do our FIRST Fund-Raising Musical Concert (with God's grace and our joint efforts, lot more to happen ahead) for our own SPB Fans Charitable Foundation !

Let's get ready to take part and be present at our SPB Sir's glorious musical concert at TRICHY (Venue: The National College) on Sep 1st 2012, the Saturday evening. The Orchestra taking the pride will be “Sruthilaya”.

 

 

This big event is coordinated by JCI (Junior Chamber International ) Trichy Wing, stewarded by its president Mr. Veerasakthi, who is part of our spbfans group! As we thank him sincerely for the efforts, let’s mark the day, join hands together, be there at the memorable event !

 

Members interested to be present at this Not-To-Be-Missed event may please confirm your participation by SMS to any of the below three numbers, latest by 13th, the Monday. It will help the planning crew to do the journey plan, logistics and work out & get back on the cost per person to be shared. SPB, Chitra for the soul

It was one of those concerts where technical glitches were overlooked, elaborate sound-checks forgiven and the blistering heat of the auditorium ignored. Singers S P Balasubramaniam and K S Chitra took their audience to a whole different world with their rendition of classics from the ’80s and ’90s at the Nehru Indoor Stadium on Saturday. The concert, Idhaya Geethangal, was organised in aid of Sri Sankara Foundation.
The veteran singers didn’t require any time to settle into their groove. Right from his first song Chinna Mani Kuyile (Amman Koyil Kizhakkale), SPB had his fans up on their feet for four straight hours.
Chitra joined SPB for Aaalapol Velapol from Ejaman for the pair’s first duet. If not for the fact that SPB’s voice sounded just as majestic in the 1993 original or because of his impromptu variations, it must have been that it was the first Rajini track of the evening, that shouts of requests from all corners of the stadium immediately filled the air. Enthused by the response they received for their first Superstar number, the duo followed it up with Adi Vaanmathi (Siva).
Though SPB said he didn’t remember the first duet that he sang with Chitra for a film, as the opening strains of Kaalam kaalamaaga.. from Kamal’s Punnagai Mannan played out, the loud roar from the eager audience confirmed that they had definitely not forgotten the evergreen song.
When the duo sang Naan Pogiren.. from the 2010 thriller Naanayam, not only did they give the young crowd in the audience a chance to finally scream for a reason they understood, but also proved that they definitely are timeless musical geniuses. A must mention is the duet between SPB and his son Charan. As they sang Ayyayyo Nenju (Aadukalam), the crowd couldn’t help but sway in amazement.
Highlights of the evening included a mesmerising Padariyen (Sindhu Bhairavi) and Ovvoru Pookalume (Autograph) by Chitra, Mandram Vandha (Mouna Raagam) and Mannil Indha Kadhal (Keladi Kanmani) by SPB and Anjaji Anjali.. from the duo that received a unanimous standing ovation.
SPB said that despite the fact that they made mistakes on stage, the audience showered them with applause because of the love they had for them and for good music. “The audience definitely knows that we’re making mistakes up here,” he said. But little did he know that with each of the songs, the singers only put their fans in a deeper reverie, making them oblivious to anything but the musical strains of nostalgia.

Singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam honoured

Artistes should be given their deserving positions in society and their talent should be given due recognition, said poet and lyrist Pirai Soodan. He was the guest of honour at a function held at Sri Baldevdas Kikani Higher Secondary School on Sunday to confer Vocational Excellence Award to playback singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore.

Lauding the remarkable career of S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, better known as SPB, in the music industry spanning across 46 years, Mr. Soodan said that the artists had to go through great troubles to keep up the quality of their work.

According to the organisers, the award was conferred for the contributions made by Dr. Balasubrahmanyam as a singer and actor as well as his efforts to reach out to the needy.

According to the citation of the award, the singer who had won Padma Sri and Padma Bhushan had sung over 40,000 songs in four languages. He had also won six national awards. He had directed music for over 40 films, and had worked as a dubbing artist, television anchor and even produced movies.

Swami Dayananda Saraswathi was the chief guest for the event.

In his acceptance speech, he recalled his days as a beginner in the industry. “It was singer S. Janaki who asked me to try singing for films. My aim was to become an engineer and look after my family,” said Dr. Balasubrahmanyam.

V. Kumaran, president of the club, Mahendra Dave, Project Chairman, V.S. Chandrasekaran, vocational service director, Gurdip Singh Anand, regional coordinator and Joseph M. Paul, secretary, also spoke.
