Dear SPB Fans,
As all of you know, our SPB-SPS combination is a rare brother-sister combo which has rendered many duets. I am bringing to you now, one such melodious duet from this duo.
Song: malargaLE idhO idhO
Movie : theeradha viLaiyaattup piLLai (1985)
singer : SPB, SPS
Composers : Shankar Ganesh
Actors : (Mike) Mohan, Poornima
I always used to wonder what would be the emotional state when a brother & sister render a love duet together. Will the output be the right one with the right emotions. How do they detach themselves from their actual relationship and get into one of lovers. I think this duo had successfully churned out some real melodies overcoming the barrier. I am given to understand that SPS had once voiced that she never looks at her big brother (the age difference is nearly 17 years between them, as i understand) while rendering a song because our Guruji is always upto something naughty and mischevious with his little sister and SPS always found it difficult to remain calm (without laughing) seeing his pranks.
This song starts off with a balanced & measured humming from SPS who also continues with the pallavi (eventhough her voice is very nasal in this song it has a freshness and a timbre to it). Our Guruji takes over from the charanam in his mellifluous voice and takes the song through a romantic ride with a delicate and soothing rendering. Just listen to the pallavi repeating after the first charanam. After "idho" SPS produces a laughter which is suitably complimented by our SPB. This sequence must have been the creation of our Guruji. Also, somehow I seem to fall in love with the way our Guruji has rendered the second charanam. It has a certain emotion woven into it which i am not able to explain but able to feel when it strings my heart & soul. Finally our Great ends the song with a soft humming combined with his subtle laughter. This must be one of Shankar-Ganesh's haunting melodies with a tingling orchestration.
I do not remember the picturisation for this song but this must be on Mohan & Poornima.
Now, enjoy this song
