Poonkodidhaan Poothadhammaa

Dear SPB Fans,

Here is a superb patho song by our SPB for the Tamil Film "Idhayam" (1991) starring Murail & Heera. Music by the maestro IlayaRaja and lyrics by Kavignar Vaali.

However some portion of the picturisation is not good where the song is shown as being sung by a singer in an orchestra on the coastal area as a background number to the situation wherein the hero finds it difficult to muster courage to express his love.

Our SPB has really brought to the fore the right emotions for the song and really wails it out when ending the charanam with "O...O...O...O...". And a subtle laugh at one place sums up the pitiable state the hero is in as far expressing his love is concerned.

IR has given a western touch to the orchestration which makes it very very pleasant to the ears.
The lyrics (i am not sure about the lyricist) is really worth talking about. Eventhough the lyrics have been penned for the tongue tied hero who is not able to express his love, they suit other real life situations as well. Eg. "thaikkooda azhuginra piLLaikku thaanae pasiyenru parivodu paalootta varuvaal". How many times have we not heard this quoted as "only a crying baby gets milk" by our superiors at work in relation to increaments / promotions / elevations ... Even the other phrases express similar thoughts and would match other situations.

This movie had the distinction of exposing to the Film Industry the flexi-bodied dancer "Prabhu Deva" dancing for the song "April Mayile..." . He must have been around 17 years of age at that time.
