Vizhiyile Mani Vizhil Mouna Mozhi Paesum Annam

Dear SPB Fans,

Today, I would like to share with you all a lovely SPB-SJ duet from the Tamil Film “Nooraavadhu Naal” (1984).

A lovely song showcasing IlayaRaja’s wonderful orchestration (guitars and violins once again dominant at portions) with a rhythamic beat and the “out of the world” rendering by both our SPB and SJ. Both just play around in this song, improvising in almost all the lines of the song and just laughing it out at some portions. The way they sing the first line of the charanams i.e, singing normally first and then repeating the same line with brief pauses in between gives a heavenly touch. The tone of their voices clearly reflects the enjoyment with which they are singing as if really enjoying the togetherness.

And now something about the movie. This movie created great waves at that time, what with some of the real murderers citing this movie as an inspiration for their methodologies (eg. Auto Shankar). Really one of the best all time thrillers of Tamil Cinema crafted in a very suspenseful manner by Director Manivannan with sequences juxtaposed nicely to create lot of suspense throughout the movie. All the artistes Mohan, Nalini and Vijayakanth really did a great job without any overacting at all. And this movie also had the distinction of exposing to the world “Satyaraj” (till then he was mostly in the background in a few movies that he had acted) in a “tonsured head with dark round glasses” get-up really projecting a villainous appearance. This seemed to have provided him a step to greater prominence in the years to come.
